Oliver Twist, a novel by Charles Dickens, was written between 1837 and 1839 and tells a story of an orphan who suffers through cruel childhood and youth, yet is bestowed a happy ending.

An abandoned child is cruelly exposed to evil, but remains pure nevertheless.
