Jean Genet:

The Balcony

Directed by: Diego de Brea

Premiere: 20 May 2015

A solid quarter of a century after the legendary The Balcony directed by Janez Pipan (1988), Genet’s play returns to our stage. The influential text about the brothel as a microcosm of the society in a city where revolution is seething, excited the imagination of the greatest directors of the twentieth century, including Peter Zadek, Peter Brook, Erwin Piscator, Giorgio Strehler, and Richard Schechner. In the Mladinsko, we this time entrusted it to Diego de Brea who has time and again proved with his projects in our theatre that he can skilfully blend grand epic historic themes with the intimacy of the individual’s inner world.
